Lake Erie Biofuels Plant
Lake Erie Biofuels Plant is Pennsylvania's first large-scale biodiesel production facility and one of the five largest in the nation with annual production capacity of about 45 million gallons. It was built on land formerly owned by International Paper Co. at a cost of more than $50 million.
As a supplier of alternative fuel additive methyl ester, the Lake Erie Biofuels Plant is a state-of-the-art biodiesel plant that meets new voluntary quality-assurance standards. Biodiesel is a fuel made from animal fats or vegetable oil. It is mixed with petroleum-based diesel to make more environmentally friendly diesel fuel and home heating oil.
Erie Management Group hired MOCA Systems as a contractor to provide professional services during the construction phase to help complete the project on-time to meet biodiesel obligations to clients. MOCA provided project controls and construction oversight services including progress audits, monitoring, payment control, construction simulation scheduling, and recovery option identification. MOCA helped to deliver the biodiesel plan through the identification of critical path activities and resource requirements, and the facilitation of recovery options during weekly progress meetings.
